£100,000-per-week Man United target has now agreed to join Chelsea

A £100,000-per-week Manchester United target has now agreed to join Chelsea, and talks are ongoing with his club over agreeing a formal deal.

Maresca and Chelsea sets sights on new attackers

Boosted by the arrival of new head coach Enzo Maresca, the west Londoners are getting to work on bringing in fresh senior faces for next season, in a bid to upgrade the squad and improve on Mauricio Pochettino's sole campaign in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

They've already sealed a deal for Tosin Adarabioyo, who joins Chelsea on a free transfer from Fulham, but it is believed that Maresca and co wish to add more firepower to the squad for next term.

A new striker signing is on the agenda at Chelsea over the next few weeks, but it won't be RB Leipzig starlet Benjamin Sesko, as Fabrizio Romano first broke news that the Slovenia international is set to remain in the Bundesliga and sign a new long-term deal.

Chelsea are thought to be targeting Artem Doybyk of Girona as an alternative to Sesko, among others, so it will be interesting to see who Maresca and co decide to bring in as the Blues' new out-and-out frontman.

The likes of Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson impressed with their goal contributions last season, scoring 42 between them, but it is believed that Chelsea could also look to seal the signing of a new attacking midfielder/winger.

A firm transfer target in that regard, according to widespread reports in the last 10 days, is Crystal Palace star Michael Olise. The 22-year-old, who could leave Selhurst Park for the value of his £60 million release clause, starred under both Roy Hodgson and Oliver Glasner last term.

Olise agrees terms with Chelsea as Palace talks continue

Now, as per GiveMeSport, a significant update has come to light on his potential move to west London. It is believed that Olise has just agreed personal terms with Chelsea, and while Man United are still in the race for him, it is the Blues who have seized more control in the race for his signing.

Talks are now ongoing with Palace over scheduled payments for the £100,000-per-week star's release clause, so if the Red Devils want to hijack a move, they need to get moving.

"What I make of him is that I think he is an enormous talent," said Hodgson on Olise last year.

"He has got a great possibility to have a wonderful career and a wonderful future. We can only hope we at Crystal Palace can give him that platform.”

Carlo Ancelotti explains why Jude Bellingham goal drought is 'not a problem' for Real Madrid despite La Liga champions not yet being at '100 per cent' as he makes key Kylian Mbappe point

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said he's not worried about Jude Bellingham's goal drought while also addressing criticism of Kylian Mbappe.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bellingham has yet to find the back of the net in the 2024-25 campaign, seemingly losing his golden touch in the final third after scoring 23 times across all competitions in his maiden season with Real Madrid. However, Ancelotti seemed unfazed by his star player's goal drought as he pointed out the England international's real role in the team.

  • WHAT CARLO ANCELOTTI SAID

Speaking to reporters, the Italian coach said: "We're satisfied with his work, I'm very satisfied. He works a lot, he's always present, he competes, he fights, he sacrifices himself. It's true he hasn't scored the goals he scored last year, but the surprise isn't this year, the surprise was last year, when he scored lots of goals which nobody expected and helped us a lot. The problem this year isn't that we're lacking Bellingham's goals.

"We've always scored goals, and we'll always score, because we have talented players up front. For us, in this moment, the work he's doing is more important than the goals the scored last year."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ancelotti also jumped to the defence of Mbappe when asked about the French forward's lack of involvement in general play. Mbappe has scored eight goals in his first 12 appearances for Real, but has come in for criticism for his performances.

"[I ask him] to score goals. I prefer him to score goals rather than pressing," Ancelotti said. "The centre forward role hasn't changed for us, I ask the same of Mbappé that I asked Karim [Benzema], to be ready when we win the ball, and try to make a fast transition."

The Real boss added on his team's current standing: "We aren't 100%, obviously. We've got good results, but we have to improve in terms of our play, and little by little, we will… We have to defend better, as we did last year. Right now the team is less solid, and we're working on that."

Set to leave: Levy is right to bin Spurs flop who cost more than Son

The loyalty, leadership, and pure quality that Heung-min Son has displayed throughout his Tottenham Hotspur career have been remarkable.

Between signing in 2015 for £22m and wearing the armband today, the South Korean has cemented himself as not just a Spurs legend, but one of the Premier League greats.

Tottenham captain Heung-min Son

The number seven has played 408 matches for the Lilywhites, boasting an insane record of 162 goals and 84 assists in the process.

However, not every player can amount to the brilliance of Son, including a certain record signing…

What Spurs paid for Tanguy Ndombele

In the summer of 2019, Spurs’ answer to losing in the 2018/19 Champions League final was to reinforce the midfield.

Tanguy Ndombele was the main target, and he joined the club following an impressive Ligue 1 campaign for Lyon, where he registered eight contributions in 31 starts.

Tottenham's Tanguy Ndombele

The French midfielder joined for a whopping £55m, signing a six-year deal as he became Spurs’ club record signing, a status he still holds to this day.

The 20 most expensive Tottenham signings of all time

Tottenham Hotspur have never been the biggest spenders in English football, but that doesn’t mean they’re without their expensive arrivals, as we found out.

Initially, Ndombele looked to be a great purchase, as he scored on his debut against Aston Villa and assisted versus Manchester City on his second appearance, but since then, it hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.

Ndombele’s transfer value in 2024

The 27-year-old’s best season in a Spurs shirt occurred during the 2020/21 term, when he featured 33 times in the Premier League, starting 28 of those.

However, three years on, and he’s only made six more league starts since for Tottenham, first joining Napoli on loan and Galatasaray last season.

Tanguy Ndombele for Napoli

Unfortunately, Ndombele has been unable to revive his career away from Spurs, starting just eight times in Serie A and only on four occasions in the Turkish Superlig.

In fact, his last start occurred on 15th January, and with his lack of game time over the last few years, a change of environment looks to be the best option.

Now, according to a report from The Standard, Ndombele may not have a say in the matter, as Spurs are set to release him this summer for free.

It’s mentioned that he looks likely to join Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, and Japhet Tanganga on the departure list as Daniel Levy aim to complete a squad overhaul.

Former Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele

Over his 91 appearances for Tottenham, Ndombele was often “frustrating,” as journalist Christian Radnedge described him, mainly due to his lack of appropriate attitude.

To think that he cost over two times more than Son, for example, just puts into context how poor of a deal it was from Spurs back in 2019.

There’s no doubt that Ndombele has immense quality, and it’s a shame to see a player with so much potential fail to reach anywhere near his expectations.

The Frenchman's transfer to Spurs will go down as an absolute disaster, especially considering they won't be able to recoup even a single penny of the £55m they once spent on him.

Kagiso Rabada 100% in support of BLM movement – but South Africa won't be kneeling

Fast bowler says it was “team decision” not to take a knee during England series

Kagiso Rabada has said the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement “will always be relevant” to him even though South Africa will not take a knee in their upcoming white-ball series against England. Instead, the squad, who will play together for the first time since March, are considering wearing black armbands in solidarity with the fight against gender-based violence and to mourn the lives lost to Covid_19.South Africa’s head coach, Mark Boucher, last week described BLM as “an ongoing thing for us, not something that we have to continue to show”. Rabada said it would remain part of the conversation, even if it is not front-and-centre of their actions.ALSO READ: ‘Real conversations’ key for anti-racism message – Jordan”Black Lives Matter is one-hundred percent something I will always stand for and I speak for myself,” Rabada said. “It was a team decision not to kneel and to look at gender-based violence and devote ourselves to another cause. However, Black Lives Matter will always be relevant and something I will always believe in and I speak for myself there. But, Mark has stated that the team will not be kneeling and that’s how it’s going to be.”Boucher said the South Africa squad believed they already showed their support for BLM when they took a knee at the exhibition 3TC match in July, following weeks of fractious debates on race in the country. All the players involved in that fixture are part of the squad that will play England and Boucher said of one of them, Lungi Ngidi, who led South Africa’s response to BLM, was satisfied that the team has done enough.According to Boucher, South Africa will now concentrate on living out values of anti-racism rather than demonstrate them with on-field gestures, even though they have not played together as a national team since the BLM movement resurged over the winter. In South Africa, the rhetoric around BLM was particularly divisive and exposed the recently papered-over cracks that have resulted from decades of legalised racial discrimination. After Ngidi expressed his wish that South African players join the rest of the world in “making a stand” in support of BLM, four former players, all white, criticised him, prompting an outpouring of stories of exclusion from players of colour. CSA has set up a social justice and nation-building committee to address historical injustices but has recently made no other public statements about anti-racist action or transformation, including its plans for reparations.Janneman Malan takes a knee on the pitch prior to the start of the 3TC game•AFP via Getty Images

The conversation around BLM appears to have shifted from collective to individual action, which Rabada remains in favour of. During the IPL, he spoke about the responsibility that high-profile people, including sportsmen, have to raise awareness over social issues and he reiterated that belief.”It is important, especially if you have a platform like you do as a sportsman – spreading the right message is important. It doesn’t mean anyone should go out of their way to do it but if you would like to, it’s important to spread the right message,” Rabada said. “There is huge responsibility in the things you say and the things you stand up for. We’ve seen the roles sportsmen had to play in all the political movements that were happening during the lockdown. I expressed my opinion on Twitter, and on some podcasts that we did but I am not getting into it too hectically. I am not writing essays about it, I am not writing a doctorate about it but I threw my two cents out.”When asked whether he thought the debate needed to move from whether a team should take a knee as a symbolic gesture, to whether they could better tackle racism in practical ways because repeated taking of a knee diminishes its significance, Rabada said he would “need to think about it”.

Gostei da capacidade do time querer ganhar o jogo.

A próxima chance que Florentín e seus comandados terão de acabarem com o jejum de vitórias que dura cinco partidas será no dia 13 de setembro quando o Leão da Ilha recebe, pela 20ª Rodada do Brasileirão, o Internacional.

Chelsea now make offer to sign £30m forward who dribbles like Mbappe

Chelsea have now made an offer to sign one £30 million forward compared to Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, with co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley already spending fairly big this summer.

Chelsea set for busy transfer window as they seek to back Maresca

The west Londoners have already officially completed moves for Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer, Marc Guiu in a £5 million deal from Barcelona, Omari Kellyman for £19 million, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall at around £30 million and Brazilian starlet Estevao Willian for £51 million.

Chelsea's outlay totals around £105 million already, just three weeks into the transfer window, but a succession of players have left to help balance the books. Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson and Ian Maatsen all departed Stamford Bridge recently for a combined fee of around £84 million, taking Todd Boehly's net spend to just £21 million.

Bearing this in mind, Chelsea appear in pretty good stead for next year's PSR deadline, depending on what happens in the next few weeks. The Blues are involved in a public race with Arsenal to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, who impressed at Euro 2024 with Italy and helped guide his club to a place in the Champions League next season.

TEAMtalk claimed this week that Chelsea are set to submit a rival bid for Calafiori, who is expected to cost somewhere around the £42 million mark. Despite bringing in Tosin, the likes of Fabrizio Romano have suggested before that Chelsea could sign two centre-backs this summer.

Meanwhile, there is also the very real possibility that they will back new manager Enzo Maresca with forward additions and more of world football's brightest talents.

Chelsea are still targeting Napoli star Victor Osimhen as one option, and could even make an offer for the Nigerian, as club president Aurelio De Laurentiis may entertain offers below his £113 million release clause.

Reports from France this week claim that they may even look to Brazil yet again. Corinthians teenager Wesley Gassova, who already boasts seven goals and five assists across 72 senior appearances, is firmly on Chelsea's radar.

Chelsea make offer to sign Wesley alongside West Ham

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Chelsea have made an offer to sign Wesley from Corinthians, though he doesn't state the financial details. As well as Maresca's side, London rivals West Ham have done the same thing, as they target their own Brazilian sensations after winning the race for Luis Guilherme.

Wesley has drawn comparisons to Mbappe in his homeland for his dribbling speed, which is surely very enticing. Other media sources have claimed that Corinthians will demand around £30 million to let go of the 19-year-old, who also has many admirers in Ligue 1.

Agreement reached: 20 y/o now set to leave Leeds alongside Cresswell

With Charlie Cresswell already seemingly set to swap Elland Road for Toulouse, Leeds United are now reportedly set to lose another young player in this summer’s transfer window.

Leeds transfer news

Of course, it looked like Leeds were about to bid farewell to Archie Gray in their biggest blow yet this summer before they reportedly rejected Brentford’s proposal. The young star even had a medical lined up at Brentford but could now join Tottenham.

The same can’t be said for Cresswell, however, who is reportedly set to undergo a medical at Toulouse next week ahead of completing a £3.8m move this summer. The central defender struggled for minutes last season and is heading for the exit door potentially alongside another young gem.

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Plymouth Argyle have reached an agreement to sign Darko Gyabi on loan from Leeds next season. The young central midfielder spent part of last season on loan at the Pilgrims and is now set to make his return to the Championship club, where he will work under new manager Wayne Rooney.

Leeds could lose "superb" star for cut price as European club open talks

This would be a frustrating blow for the Whites.

2 ByTom Cunningham Jun 28, 2024

Daniel Farke may hope to welcome back a player ready to step into his first team, as Gyabi gains crucial minutes in the Championship next season. With his contract set to expire in 2026 too, it’s set to be an important year for the 20-year-old in what could end in a career crossroad.

"Excellent" Gyabi needs Plymouth return

With minutes far from guaranteed at Elland Road, a return to Plymouth on loan makes perfect sense for Gyabi. The young midfielder will get the opportunity to play week in, week out whilst learning from one of England’s greatest-ever players in the form of Rooney. If his destiny is to eventually leave Leeds on a permanent basis in 2026 too, then impressing other Championship clubs will certainly do the 20-year-old no harm.

Leeds' Darko Gyabi

Gyabi earned plenty of praise during last season’s loan spell, with former Plymouth manager Ian Foster saying via The Yorkshire Evening Post whilst also praising Ashley Phillips: “They were excellent, both of them. They fit in the group incredibly well and that’s credit to the other boys.

“We’ve welcomed them. I don’t look at birth certificates when I pick teams. They’re both teenagers coming into what is a very, very difficult game and I thought they both handled it really, really well. Ashley was solid throughout the game. I thought his in-possession game was good, and we’ve seen with Darko what he’s capable of. He’s full of energy. He wants to get on the ball, play forward and break lines.”

Now seemingly set to become the next player to leave Elland Road this summer, Gyabi may hope to instantly find the form he first showed at Plymouth last season.

Samit Patel takes Nottinghamshire association into 20th year with new contract

Patel to focus on white-ball cricket, while Harry Gurney also re-signs

ESPNcricinfo staff17-Nov-2020Samit Patel is set to complete 20 years as a Nottinghamshire player after signing a two-year contract extension at the club, primarily for white-ball cricket.Patel, who made his first-class debut for Notts as a 17-year-old in 2002, was a key part of the club’s T20 Blast triumph this season, hitting a vital 28 not out from No. 8 in the quarter-final against Leicestershire before returning 2 for 42 in six overs across the semi-final and final. While he remains available for selection in red-ball cricket, Patel said that focusing on his limited-overs skills would benefit both the club and his longevity.”I’m not retiring from playing with the red ball, and I’ll always be there for Notts in first-class cricket if they need me,” Patel said. “However, Matt Carter and Liam Patterson-White are spin bowlers with their careers ahead of them, and we have a talented batting line-up with loads of potential too, so I firmly believe the club needs to go down that route in the red-ball game.”In limited-overs cricket, I believe we have a team that can be there or thereabouts for years to come. I know I have a big part to play in that and winning more trophies is the ultimate aim.”ALSO READ: County ins and outs, 2020-21Patel, who played six Tests and 54 limited-overs games in his England career, has become a regular feature on the worldwide T20 circuit in recent years, and is currently playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League playoffs before heading to the Lanka Premier League. He was surprisingly overlooked in the selection process for the Hundred last year, and will hope to press his case ahead of January’s draft.”Samit believes very strongly that we’ll benefit as a limited-overs team from him becoming a white-ball specialist – both in terms of the longevity of his career and with the specific focus it will bring to his preparation,” Peter Moores, Notts’ head coach, said.”The terms of this contract are reflective of Samit’s wishes in that regard. He’s earned the right over many years, and in particular with the way he went about his cricket last season, to make that decision and for us to respect it.”The club also confirmed that Harry Gurney has signed another white-ball deal for 2021 after missing the T20 Blast this summer through a shoulder injury, which also ruled him out of the IPL. Having joined from Leicestershire in 2012, Gurney will complete a decade as a Notts player next summer.”2020 has ended up being a bit of an enforced sabbatical for me,” Gurney said, “but I feel rested, refreshed and ready to power through the next phase of my rehab to get ready for 2021.”Toby Pettman, a beanpole Oxford University seamer, has also been offered professional terms for 2021 after impressing bowling coach Kevin Shine at an MCCU open day.
