Everton: Thelwell Could Sign Dyche’s Own Leao In "Dreamy" £21m Gem

Everton's transfer window finally appears to be gaining steam, and manager Sean Dyche is now hoping to fortify his offensive ranks with a swoop for Juventus teenager Samuel Iling-Junior.

The Toffees have only signed Arnaut Danjuma on loan and Ashley Young on a free transfer, and while a £13m deal has been agreed for Sporting Lisbon striker Youssef Chermiti, more work will need to be done to avoid another perilous season battling against relegation from the Premier League.

What's the latest on Samuel Iling-Junior to Everton?

Italian outlet il BiancoNero revealed one week ago that Everton have displayed a concrete interest in Iling-Junior following El Bilal Toure's rejection of the Goodison Park side in favour of Atalanta.

More recently, Tuttomercatoweb have claimed that Everton and Premier League rivals Aston Villa are in pursuit, though the OId Lady would only sanction a sale if their €25m (£21m) valuation is met, with the player penning a new long-term deal last December.

Who is Samuel Iling-Junior?

Everton's director of football Kevin Thelwell has his work cut out to ensure that the club finally construct a team capable of challenging for a place higher up the ladder in the English top-flight.

After years of issues, the maladies on Merseyside could be cured with the crafting of a team brimming with first-class talent; Chermiti, aged 19, certainly looks a future star, while Iling-Junior holds the tools to build a successful career.

A dynamic and explosive winger, Iling-Junior scored once and supplied two assists from 18 outings for Juventus last season, only starting on three occasions.

Once lauded for his "high energy and work volume as well as dreamy ball skills" by scout Antonio Mango, the 19-year-old already ranks among the top 5% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 1% for assists, the top 9% for shot-creating actions, the top 20% for progressive carries and the top 9% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref – though it's important to note that this is based off little match action.

Samuel Iling Junior in action for Juventus.

Nevertheless, it illustrates his natural striking instinct and skill as a bouncing, energetic force on the flanks, with journalist Michele Neri already heralding the starlet as an "assist machine".

When discussing Iling-Junior's style, Neri also said:

“In these qualities, you can absolutely see shades of Rafael Leão when the AC Milan superstar was a bit younger. Of course he is certainly less impactful today than Leão is and has a long way to go to reach the Portuguese’s level."

The AC Milan phenom is definitely not a bad choice to mould one's game off, with the Portuguese talent, who has been dubbed a "phenomenon" by Italian sporting director Fabio Cordella, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists across all competitions.

The £105k-per-week gem ranks among the top 5% of attacking midfielders and wingers for goals, the top 11% for assists, the top 11% for progressive carries and the top 4% for successful take-ons per 90.

Given Leão's progressive prowess and electric presence, Iling-Junior could flourish with Everton – boasting a similar profile, he could devastate on the Toffees' flank and grow into one of Europe's leading stars.

Chelsea Battling Man City For 21-Year-Old PL Ace

Chelsea are interested in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Michael Olise this summer, but face competition from Manchester City, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

How old is Michael Olise?

The 21-year-old has arguably become one of Palace's most important players, especially now that Wilfried Zaha has departed for Galatasaray. His technical quality and dribbling ability have caught the eye so often in recent years, with a stunning late free-kick at home to Manchester United last season arguably one of the standout goals of the campaign.

In 2022/23, Olise featured in 37 of the Eagles' 38 Premier League games, starting 31 of them, registering an impressive 11 assists and also scoring twice. That outlines what a key man he already is at such a tender age, and Palace fans no doubt see him as the future of the club, alongside Eberechi Eze.

That being said, the south Londoners might find it difficult to keep hold of the France youth international this summer, should a bid come in from one of the Premier League's biggest clubs. Chelsea have been linked with a move for him already, and it looks as though their interest is not going away.

Crystal Palace midfielder Michael Olise.

Could Chelsea sign Michael Olise?

Taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed that Chelsea and City are both eyeing a summer move for Olise, with a release clause of around £35m in his contract:

"Release clause confirmed. Man City and Chelsea interest confirmed. Olise, one to follow in the next days/weeks."

This is an exciting prospect for Chelsea supporters, considering Olise is arguably one of the most talented young players around currently, possessing such a silky style of play but also producing consistent end product.

To have already got 16 assists in the Premier League at the age of just 21 says so much about his quality in the final third, and that should only go up a gear as he ages, and if he surrounded by superior teammates than the ones at Palace.

One of Olise's current colleagues, Joel Ward, has also made it clear how highly he thinks of him as a player, recently saying:

“Michael’s a special talent. The world’s his oyster and he’s just getting better and better from game to game, so I think he’s going to go onto new heights and set the bar. If he continues that way, he’s going to go on to special things."

Olise really could be a gem of an addition at Chelsea, providing strong competition for the current wide and central attacking options, from Raheem Sterling to Nicolas Jackson, and his ability to cuts inside from the right onto his deadly left foot can be a real weapon for the Blues.

Mauricio Pochettino has always been a keen advocate of youth during his managerial career, if he feels he can get the very best out of the Palace star, it is a move that Chelsea must try and get over the line. The competition that City are providing is a potential stumbling block, but it would be harder for Olise to start more regularly at the Etihad, which could help the Blues.

PCB appoint Mark Coles as Pakistan women's head coach

His first assignment in charge will be in the UAE, where Pakistan host New Zealand for three ODIs and four T20Is later this year

Umar Farooq25-Sep-2017The PCB has appointed Mark Coles as head coach of the Pakistan women’s team for the upcoming series against New Zealand in the UAE. The move to bring in a foreigner – Coles is from New Zealand – in the coaching staff is a part of an ongoing revamp in the women’s circuit.A PCB release said that Coles’ appointment was “on trial basis”, where he will be working as a volunteer with the national team and assigned only for the upcoming New Zealand series. The team, under the leadership of Sana Mir, lost all seven matches at the Women’s World Cup earlier this year and finished last on the points table. In a scathing report presented by coach Sabhi Azhar after Pakistan’s poor show in the tournament, he singled out the captain, manager and a few senior players as the reason for the winless campaign. The PCB is assessing the report to identify the problems and intends to revamp the entire structure, which may see a few sackings, some recruitments and even a change of captaincy.”We have tried so many Pakistani coaches till date without better results,” PCB chairman Najam Sethi told ESPNcricinfo. “It is time to get more professional input into women’s cricket like we have successfully done with the men’s national team. The intention is to set up a professional management team that will be given time to deliver results.”Sana Mir was the captain of Pakistan’s winless campaign•ICCColes, who has played six List A games for Wellington, comes with an extensive coaching background in the New Zealand and Australian domestic circuit. He was previously development manager for Waikato Valley and held several coaching jobs, working as a high-performance manager for the Western Australia and Wellington women’s cricket teams. His highest coaching role till date at the international level had been with ICC Affiliate Vanuatu. He also coached the Wellington Blaze to a T20 title in 2013, as well as being part of the Northern Districts High Performance coaching staff from 2014.”It was tough for them, but they competed really well over there [2017 Women’s World Cup],” Coles told after his appointment was made official. “I think they just lost the big moments in those games. They played well, but when the big moments came they couldn’t get the job done. Obviously the public just want them to win, like any international team. The team has been developing really nicely, so hopefully we can continue that.”Pakistan’s women’s team has never had a long-term or specialised coaching staff. Over the past few years, appointments have been made on a series-by-series basis. Azhar, who is also Rawalpindi’s head coach, was brought in only a few weeks before the World Cup. Mansoor Rana and Mohtashim Rasheed have spent a longer time in coaching roles with the team in the past. Basit Ali briefly served as coach before being sacked earlier this year.Coles’ first assignment is to lead Pakistan to the UAE to face New Zealand in three ODIs and four T20Is. The series is part of the ICC’s Women’s Cricket Championship, a four-year tournament that ends in 2021, with the top four teams at the end gaining automatic qualification to the Women’s World Cup in 2021. The series will be considered a home series for Pakistan, and the games will be played in Sharjah.

West Ham Edging Closer To Signing £14m "Real Deal"

West Ham United have yet to make a signing so far during the summer transfer window, but with the sale of Declan Rice giving David Moyes a war chest of £105m, this will surely change in the coming weeks.

The Irons are already close to securing the signature of Manchester City youngster Carlos Borges, and he could be Moyes first summer deal.

Are West Ham United close to signing Carlos Borges?

Last week, The Manchester Evening News claimed that West Ham were working on a deal to sign the teenage prospect this summer, with Moyes paying £14m to secure his signature.

A recent update on the move has been delivered by ExWHUemployee on The West Ham Way Patreon (via The West Ham Way), saying: “The Carlos Borges transfer is very close to being agreed with Manchester City now and hopefully can all be finalised soon.

“The main stumbling block appeared to be the buy back clause.

“Manchester City have inserted these clauses into contracts of previous youngsters they have sold such as Romeo Lavia to Southampton. Other clubs have also used these strategies too such as Chelsea with Tino Livramento again to Southampton and Tammy Abraham to Roma.

“It is thought that Borges buy back clause will be around £40m which is a decent figure considering we are due to sign him for around £14m.”

What could Carlos Borges offer West Ham?

The left-winger has scored an impressive total of 55 goals in just 79 matches during his spell in the City youth teams, displaying his keen eye for goal and this could give West Ham a goal-scoring boost from a wide position.

Across three appearances in the Football League Trophy last term, Borges was outstanding. He scored four times, averaged 1.7 key passes per game while grabbing an assist and created one big chance. This suggests that not only does he have a clear ruthless nature in front of goal, but the youngster can create chances for others.

Journalist Tom Young waxed lyrical about Borges last year, saying: “Carlos Borges is the real deal. Get this man training with Erling and Julian as soon as possible. The sky is the limit.”

On the surface, Moyes looks like he has a player who could go straight into the first team judging by his recent statistics; however he could well be an ideal heir for Said Benrahma.

The Algerian winger enjoyed a mixed campaign during 2022/23, ranking third for goals scored (six) in the Premier League and second for big chances created (five), however he ranked eighth for overall Sofascore match rating (6.86) and if Borges arrived, there could be a battle for the left-wing spot.

Despite not playing a senior game for City, Borges clearly did enough last term for the U21 side to warrant game time in the top flight, registering a staggering 32 goal contributions – 21 goals and 11 assists – across just 24 matches in the Premier League 2.

Although the 27-year-old has three years left on his current West Ham deal, the imminent arrival of Borges will have him looking over his shoulder and there is no reason why the Portuguese sensation cant be an ideal long-term heir for Benrahma.

Australia's woes open doors for aspirants in JLT Cup

Following series defeats in New Zealand and India, and an early Champions Trophy exit, Australia’s domestic tournament presents ample opportunity for players to stake a claim for a place in the national side

Daniel Brettig26-Sep-2017

Moises Henriques will captain New South Wales for, at least, the early part of the tournament•Getty Images

For the 98 players selected across seven squads for Australia’s domestic limited-overs competition, the sight of an underperforming national team being carved up by India in the ongoing ODI series, after an early Champions Trophy elimination in June, preceded by a series defeat in New Zealand earlier in the year, essentially means one thing: opportunity.Though the national selectors have recently shown a bent more developmental than performance-based – see Sam Heazlett in New Zealand and Hilton Cartwright in India – the current trend of poor ODI results demands that those who raise their hands in the tournament, to be played over the next month, must be given due consideration for the matches that follow this summer’s Ashes series.Such selections would lead, in turn, to long-term preparations for the 2019 World Cup, where Australia will be, despite the underwhelming nature of current appearances, the defending champions of a title lifted at home in 2015. Among the players selected in the squads of the six states, no fewer than 20 have played ODI matches for Australia before, and will thus want to return to the national team, with substantial length of time on their hands, to secure a spot ahead of the global tournament. That’s without mentioning plenty of youthful talents who aspire to a first cap, not least the wicketkeepers, who, on Sunday, were subjected to the sight of Peter Handscomb – a decent gloveman but not his state’s first choice – replacing Matthew Wade behind the stumps at Indore. For defending champions New South Wales (NSW), an initial visit west to Perth takes the Blues out of the early season comfort zone they have enjoyed for the most part since the tournament was given a largely Sydney-centric base in 2013. Their captain for the early part of the tournament, at least, will be Moises Henriques, one of many players to have been shuffled into and out of the ODI team over the past 12 months. At the age of 30, Henriques is now vastly experienced and a known and respected personality in the domestic circuit. But his underwhelming international record seems scant reward for the years of investment placed in him by both NSW and Australia since he was first identified as a precocious teenage talent well over a decade ago. Looking towards India from afar, Henriques hoped the touring party was looking as much at process as results.”You should always be concerned with results, but also the process as to why that’s happening,” he said. “It’s not ideal; you always want to be winning, because you’re always a bit happier when you’re winning. The players are going to be happier if they’re winning, but I don’t think it’s going to be a direct correlation to how we’ll go here in the summer.”Especially being back at home and having hopefully all of our quicks available, which will be a huge advantage. But you’ve got to ask questions why results aren’t happening and if they’re related to the process then that’s a bit of a concern, but I’ve only been able to watch the first half of the ODIs, and every time I’ve gone to bed Australia have looked in a really good position, so I don’t know what’s happened after that.”Despite his many feats for Australia in Tests, Nathan Lyon seems unwanted as a limited-overs bowler•Getty Images

Another member of the NSW squad who has, thus far, seemed unwanted as a limited-overs bowler is Nathan Lyon, despite his many feats for Australia in Tests. Henriques suggested that the passage of the India series demonstrated the advantages of choosing a genuinely wicket-taking spin bowler or two.”What Gaz [Lyon] can do, and we saw it over there in the [Bangladesh] Test matches, he can take wickets the whole way throughout,” Henriques said. “That’s what you want in a one-day game and that’s what we’ve seen with the attacking Indian spinners: they’ve just taken wickets the whole way through the middle order of their innings, which continually puts pressure on the batting side.”Gaz is a wicket-taker, and in one-day cricket we’ve seen that when he comes back and plays for the Sixers in T20 cricket, he’s won us a few games. Last year, in the [50-over] final, he took 4 for 10 off his 10 overs and just kept taking wickets through those middle overs. He’s such an attacking bowler that you can set more defensive fields and let his aggressive bowling nature take over. I’m sure he wants to play; it’s just a matter of the opportunity for someone like Nathan.”First up on the fixture is South Australia’s meeting with the developmental Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane on Wednesday, where Daniel Worrall and Alex Carey will be among several Redbacks pushing for higher honours. “In Brisbane, it usually swings around a bit and that helps our bowling line-up, myself and Nick Winter, Spencer Johnson is a new kid coming up and then Joe Mennie, of course,” Worrall said. “If we can get the ball talking up front, it’ll give us a huge advantage.”It’s just a matter of bringing all aspects of our game together and putting a good performance in. We’ve got a lot of guys who are a bit more experienced now, a couple of newer guys, but our middle order now has been settled for three or four years, so we’ll be looking for those guys to fire.”I’m as fit as I’ve been for a few years at least. The ball’s coming out nicely but you never really know until the game starts. I can’t wait to play with the Redbacks in one-day cricket again; I only got to play one game last year, so this time around, we’re hopefully going to go into the final and take it out.”

Arsenal: Gunners Could Hijack Deal For World Cup Star

Arsenal are attempting to aggressively enter negotiations for Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow, according to reports out of Italy.

Who will Arsenal sign?

Mikel Arteta, after sealing a trio of marquee deals already, could surprisingly make even more signings before deadline day as we enter the final phase of this summer transfer window.

Kai Havertz's £65 million deal, combined with a £38 million move for Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice's club-record £105 million transfer from West Ham, take Arsenal's spending north of £200 million.

Reliable media sources also claim that the Gunners are chasing a move for Brentford's David Raya as sporting director Edu looks to provide competition for current number one Aaron Ramsdale.

It's been a memorable last month for Gooners as their club show true ambition in the market, with Arteta seeming particularly thrilled by his side's capture of Rice.

“We’re really happy that Declan is joining us," said Arteta.

"He is a player with tremendous ability, who has been performing at a high level in the Premier League and for England for a number of seasons now. Declan is bringing undoubted quality to the club and he is an exceptional talent who has the potential to be very successful here.

“Declan has great experience in the Premier League at only 24 years old. He has captained a very good West Ham team and as we all saw, he recently lifted a European trophy. The responsibility and role he has taken on has been very impressive and we are really excited that he is joining us.”

Arsenal have also been linked with an ambitious move for Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and according to Calciomercato.it, as translated by Sport Witness, they could look to hijack Lazio's move for Sow from Frankfurt.

The Switzerland international, who featured regularly during their 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar, is apparently a target for Edu and Arsenal.

It is believed they could "aggressively enter the negotiation" for Sow despite Lazio's advanced talks to sign him.

The 26-year-old was apparently on the verge of joining Maurizio Sarri's side, with a deal even being agreed of around €15 million (£12.8m) plus bonuses, but Arsenal could look to disrupt the transfer with a move of their own.

Sevilla are another side interested in Sow, meaning a possible auction is on the cards, but Lazio aren't giving up and are expected to hold a meeting on how best to proceed.

How good is Djibril Sow?

The midfielder was a near-undroppable for Eintracht last campaign, playing the fifth-highest number of league minutes out of anyone in their squad over 2022/2023 (WhoScored).

Sow started 30 league matches for them, making a further two appearances from the bench, with members of the English media heaping praise on him for some performances.

Sports reporter Sam Smith of The Daily Express, for instance, praised drew attention to Sow's "combative" and "progressive" style of play in late 2022.

"First time properly watching Djibril Sow in this first half & been impressed," wrote Smith.

"Progressive on the ball and combative."

A price in and around the £12.8m mooted is also more-than afforable from Arsenal's perspective, so this could be one to watch out for.

West Ham Could Sign £28m Star To Replace Antonio

West Ham United's Premier League campaign is well underway after taking a point away from their opening game against Bournemouth, and now the club are stepping up their pursuit of a transfer target.

What's the latest West Ham transfer news?

According to popular French news outlet L'Equipe, West Ham are preparing a bid in the region of €33m (£28m) to sign Montpellier striker Elye Wahi this summer.

As per the report, the Hammers are competing with fellow Premier League and London club Chelsea for the centre-forward's signature, however, West Ham have the upper hand as Chelsea are claimed to be in slow in their approach.

It is further noted that West Ham are going to submit their first offer soon.

Will Michail Antonio leave West Ham?

Huge changes have taken place in the West Ham squad this summer after winning the Europa Conference League just a few months ago, and David Moyes will be hoping that the departures both confirmed and imminent will not affect his team's ability to compete.

Declan Rice, Gianluca Scamacca and Manuel Lanzini have all moved on from east London, however, now Lucas Paqueta is being tempted with an attractive move to treble-winners Manchester City, whilst Michail Antonio is keen to move on.

It was reported by Football Transfers earlier this month that the all-time top-scorer for West Ham would like to end his eight-year stint and move on to a new challenge this summer, with both Leeds United and Celtic named as potential suitors.

antonio-west-ham-transfer-gossip

As a result, the signing of Wahi would present an opportunity for Moyes to finally offload the wantaway striker, as the young talent would add huge quality and plenty of goal contributions in the wake of Antonio's prospective exit.

How good is Elye Wahi?

Over 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season, the 20-year-old scored 19 goals, registered five assists and created seven big chances, as well as averaging 1.9 shots on goal per game, proving that he is a real threat in the final third.

Not only that, the impressive goal machine was one of the stand-out performers across the French top-flight – ranking as the seventh top goal-scorer, fourth for non-penalty goals while he also had the highest percentage of shots on target throughout the 2022/23 season, as per FBref.

The Montpellier talent has been the recipient of high praise over his short career so far, with journalist Josh Bunting waxing lyrical about the youngster in the past, saying:

"Excited to see Wahi play this season, a magnificent young talent who reads the game so well."

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer for the Irons to secure a deal for Wahi this summer and if he could emulate his incredible form in front of goal last season in the Premier League and Europa League this season, it would show there is certainly no longer any need for Antonio.

Sky Sports Pundits In Heated Clash Over Liverpool Owners

After failing to qualify for the Champions League last season for the first time in a full campaign under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool were reportedly preparing for a major rebuild. Months later, however, and they've lost more players than they've signed, leaving them alarmingly short in midfield.

So far this summer, the first-team players that they've lost include Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamblerain, and most notably and unexpectedly, Fabinho and club captain Jordan Henderson.

When the Reds initially welcomed both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai earlier in the window, their midfield did have a new and improved look. However, the departures of Henderson and Fabinho left them without a recognised defensive midfielder, and plugging gaps by playing the likes of Cody Gakpo out of position in pre-season.

Tensions reached boiling point when reports spread that Liverpool once again failed to reach Southampton's £50m valuation for defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia, sparking a heated debate between Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.

What did Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville argue about?

Carragher initially started the conversation by Tweeting in reaction to the news of Liverpool's failed bid for Lavia, as the Premier League season gets closer and closer.

He said: "This is embarrassing. Liverpool for years now have got deals done quickly with no fuss. If you don’t think he’s worth 50M move on, if you really want him pay it. Also not sure why LFC aren’t in for [Moises] Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for JH/FAB."

Romeo Lavia

Neville, of course, couldn't resist pushing the former defender's buttons, asking a crucial question over Liverpool's ownership, replying with: "Do you now agree that Klopp has shielded your owners for the last 5-6 years?"

Carragher wasted no time in lashing out at his fellow Sky Sports pundit, hitting back by saying: "Gary you haven’t a clue what’s going on at Liverpool! The owners have a self-sustaining model that Klopp bought into & produced miracles! Part of that was a transfer department that was the envy of Europe.

"That has now gone with Klopp running the club from top to bottom. LFC have had three DOF’s in 18 months, the current one who came out of retirement to do the job for this summer, he’s a close contact of the manager. Liverpool’s wage bill is 150M more than Arsenals a season. Just do the Maths.

"Liverpool don’t have an investor (Peter Lim) like you do at Salford, where you & lads just get on a plane at the end of the season to beg him to spend more money!!

Things eventually calmed down between the two, with the duo sending one-line answers to all but end the debate for now. Neville said: "Walls are closing in people.. He’s getting tetchy."

Ending the argument, Carragher sent one final reply, saying: "Another season starts."

It's worth reminding that the Premier League season hasn't even kicked off yet, and already the two legends have got their arguments going. Let's just say, we could be in for an entertaining campaign from Sky Sports' punditry team.

What's the latest Liverpool transfer news?

As things stand, Jurgen Klopp will be without a recognised defensive midfielder for Liverpool's opening game at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, the Reds have had a third bid rejected in the region of £45m, including add-ons for Lavia, with Southampton still holding out for £50m.

It's certainly a deal to keep an eye on, as Liverpool continue to test their luck against a stubborn Saints side who don't look like budging on their valuation anytime soon.
