'Want to be consistent in all the three formats' – Rahul

India had ended day one of the Sabina Park Test 126 for 1 in reply to West Indies’ 196. They had scored at a run rate of 3.40 per over. On day two, India added 232 to their overnight total, at a scoring rate of 2.64 an over, to go to stumps 162 ahead with five wickets in hand. KL Rahul, who went on to score a career-best 158, reckoned that West Indies’ bowling discipline on day two had made it difficult for India’s batsmen to score quickly.”Well look, you probably have to give a little credit to the West Indies bowlers as well,” he said. “They came in with a set plan this morning, to keep it tight and not give away easy runs. They tried to bowl the fourth-fifth stump channel. The wicket obviously isn’t the easiest to bat on. It is a little spongy sometimes, and two-paced. So you couldn’t play through the line or go after the bowlers when they bowled those channels.”It’s a Test match, you have all the time in the world. We have bundled them out for 180 (196), and we still had four days to go. We were in no hurry, so we could take our time and wait for the loose balls. I think we played really well in the first session. We gave the West Indies bowlers and the lengths and lines they were bowling the respect it demanded. At the end of the day, we have still gotten the amount of runs we wanted to get. We are very happy as a batting unit.”In the first session, Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara scored 59 runs at 2.27 an over, and denied West Indies the early breakthroughs they must have hoped to make. Having moved to 46, Pujara was run out in the tenth over after lunch, continuing a sequence of innings in which he has failed to convert starts into bigger scores. Rahul said Pujara was “doing all the processes right”, and was confident a big innings was around the corner.”I think he’s batting really, really well,” Rahul said. “I think his judgment outside the off stump was fabulous and his discipline was really good. When the bowler keeps bowling the fourth-fifth stump channel, the easiest thing to do is to try and place down to third man or try and go over cover or point. You may connect one or two, but you could give a catch to the slips.”He did the hard thing [by leaving as many balls as he could]. He did the hard yards, but unfortunately he got out at the wrong time. Had he stayed till the end, he would have scored 100 more runs in the next two sessions. It’s unfortunate, but I think he’ll be happy that he is doing his processes right. The outcome is sometimes not in our hands.”We know how much of a run-hungry guy he is and it will make him hungrier and I’m sure big runs are coming his way in the third and fourth Tests.”Rahul’s hundred was his third in Test cricket, and had come in only his sixth match. He has had to wait for his opportunities, with M Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan established as India’s first-choice opening combination, but he came into the match with form behind him, in the shape of a breakthrough IPL season and an ODI hundred on debut.”The last couple of months, I’ve been performing well,” he said. “I’ve been consistent in all the three formats and that’s what I want to do as a cricketer, to be consistent in all the three formats. Go out there, and play to the best of my abilities, and play my roles and responsibilities for the team.”Right now I’m in a good space. I’m only watching the ball and trying to judge the ball and if I think the ball is there to be hit, I’m hitting the ball. That doesn’t change. That’s the only thing that doesn’t change with T20, one-day or four-day cricket – when the ball is there to be hit, you hit the ball. That’s the only thing that runs in my mind. I’m very happy with the space I’m in and the focus levels have been great.”

Tottenham: Spurs Chief Pushes For "Super" Title-Winning Boss

Tottenham chief Donna Cullen is pushing for the club to appoint former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, but Daniel Levy disagrees.

What's the latest Spurs manager news?

Spurs have a number of pressing concerns to alleviate before kick-starting their plans for next season, with the north Londoners still missing both a permanent Antonio Conte successor and sporting director.

Conte left N17 nearly two months ago and Levy's manager search is dragging on, while Fabio Paratici's resignation means Tottenham are eager to source a replacement club chief quickly.

The Lilywhites are apparently stepping up their chase for a new managing director to step in Paratici's shoes, even despite the appointment of Scott Munn as Chief Football Officer.

Back to their managerial search, Tottenham's list of candidates appears to be getting narrower, with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann out of the running and Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso confirming his plans to stay.

Brendan Rodgers

As of the names still in the frame, it is believed Feyenoord's Arne Slot, Sporting CP's Ruben Amorim and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi are still in contention.

Another tactician who has been linked with the job is Rodgers, who left Leicester City earlier this season, with a report by Football Transfers and journalist Steve Kay sharing an update.

According to their information, Cullen, a member of the Spurs boardroom, is pushing for the appointment of Rodgers, but Levy is against the idea of his hiring.

Cullen apparently holds hope that the 50-year-old can persuade both of his former stars, James Maddison and Youri Tielemans, to follow him to Spurs.

Levy is still saying no, though, with the report describing this difference of opinion between Tottenham's chairman and executive Cullen as a boardroom tussle.

Who is Brendan Rodgers?

The former Celtic boss, who guided the Scottish giants to a plethora of SPFL titles, also won both the Community Shield and FA Cup during his time at Leicester.

Rodgers has been courted by Spurs in previous years and was a rumoured candidate to replace Jose Mourinho in 2021.

Given his status as a readily-available free agent, along with past achievements, it's little surprise his name has been circulating again in regards to the Spurs job.

West Ham boss David Moyes certainly rates Rodgers, calling him a "super manager" in reaction to his Leicester exit.

The Scotsman said:

"Really disappointed for Brendan. Super manager. Really good coach. He won’t be out of a job long."

Carlson's debut five-for scuppers Northants

Kiran Carlson took 5 for 28 on his first-class debut to help bowl Northamptonshire out for 269 on the opening day at Wantage Road

It was a remarkable introduction for the 18-year-old offspinner from Cardiff.Flighting the ball well and enjoying help from a dry, used wicket, Carlson – playing only due to Craig Meschede’s back injury – tore through the Northants lower order. The home side collapsed in the afternoon, losing 9 for 84, although it may yet prove a heathy total.Carlson’s first wicket came as a a great relief for Glamorgan with the final ball before lunch. He broke an opening stand of 140 with a full delivery that beat Ben Duckett’s sweep and took out leg stump. He returned to pick up a second wicket in the over before tea, a delivery that spun in to hit the off stump of Steven Crook. After tea, a similar delivery bowled Rory Kleinveldt and he then induced David Murphy and Graeme White into driving to Graham Wagg at short extra-cover to complete an extraordinary debut.Carlson finished off what was an impressive comeback from Glamorgan. The home side were in a commanding position at lunch, 140 for 1, but as some heavier cloud rolled in and the breeze picked up, batting became less straightforward. Glamorgan, to their credit, also bowled with far more discipline and took 5 for 45 in the second session. It was Wagg who made the breakthrough in the afternoon, shaping a delivery back into the right-handed Rob Newton just enough to take an inside edge into the stumps – Newton gone for 78. Rob Keogh followed in identical fashion for just 5, with Timm van der Gugten the successful bowler. In between those dismissals, Alex Wakely edged David Lloyd’s medium pace to slip and when Saif Zaib was splendidly caught by Jacques Rudolph running back from mid-on as Zaib looked to hit Owen Morgan down the ground, Northants’ ambitions of a large first-innings total were checked. It was quite a turnaround from the morning session, when Duckett went past fifty for the sixth time this year in the County Championship, from 65 balls. Among his eight fours featured the odd moment of fortune – an early drive wide of the slip cordon and a top-edged cut over second slip – and his six was a miscued pull that flew over long leg.Duckett’s opening partner Newton made his own half-century in 81 balls but his afternoon dismissal was the beginning of Northants’ collapse.

"Important" £15k-p/w Arsenal Star In "Positive" Talks With Club

Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson could be set to sign a new deal at the club following positive talks, Sky Sports presenter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed.

What's the latest on Reiss Nelson?

The winger has so far turned down a number of proposals from the Gunners to extend his contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer, and Mikel Arteta would like to keep the 23-year-old.

Nelson has not featured regularly, failing to start in any of his 10 league appearances this season, but his encouraging cameos off the bench have seen him earn a more prominent role in the squad.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Sheth revealed that after weeks of uncertainty, there appears to have been a positive breakthrough in talks, and the Englishman may sign a new deal to remain at the Emirates.

"Now there were also doubts about the future of Reiss Nelson, his contract is up this summer and talks over a one-year contract came to no agreement," he stated.

"There was a lot of talk, is this the end for Reiss Nelson at Arsenal? But since then, we've learned that positive talks have now taken place between Reiss Nelson and his representatives, and the football club over a long-term contract, we believe to be around four years, and there's cautious optimism now, that Arsenal can get that one over the line, and Reiss Nelson will commit his long term future to the club."

Should Arsenal keep Reiss Nelson?

Although the £15k-per-week star has been unlucky with injuries over the years, he is showing signs that he is finally living up to his potential, having once been considered one of Arsenal's best young prospects.

His substitute appearances have been impressive, scoring twice off the bench against Nottingham Forest, and notably scoring a stunning volley in the final minute as Arsenal came from behind to beat Bournemouth.

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson

Arteta has described Nelson as "important," and it appears that the Spaniard is desperate to keep the winger as he continues his development.

Bukayo Saka has appeared in every league game for Arsenal this season, and if Nelson can be utilised as cover for the England star, then he can gain more chances on the field, whilst Saka can be allowed more rest.

Loan spells with mixed success at Hoffenheim and Feyenoord have meant that Nelson did not develop at the club alongside the likes of Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah as academy graduates, but if he commits his future to the club and lives up to his potential, then Arsenal could save themselves a lot of money in the transfer market.

New Zealand pile up 582 to take charge

Scorecard and ball-by-ball details0:58

New Zealand’s highest in a Test innings against Zimbabwe

Another day of Test cricket in Bulawayo belonged to New Zealand as they piled on the runs on Zimbabwe with three batsmen scoring centuries and two notching half-centuries in their first-innings total of 582 for 4. New Zealand batted for two entire sessions before declaring during the tea break in a bid to take a few wickets in the last session but Zimbabwe’s opening stand stood unbroken after 30 overs.Tino Mawoyo and Chamu Chibhabha saw through the new ball, a short-ball barrage and 11 overs of spin to end the day on a respectable 55 for 0. While Mawoyo, who came in for Brian Chari, was more resolute, Chibhabha offered a few more shots to finish the day on 31 off 89 balls, compared to Mawoyo’s 20 off 91 balls. Once New Zealand saw there was no swing on offer for the first five overs, which were all maidens, the slip cordon was trimmed and the leg-side field was packed as Tim Southee and Trent Boult switched to a short-ball strategy. When that did not work either, Kane Williamson brought on the spinners and Neil Wagner but the openers’ tactics did not waver to head towards the half-century stand.

Nice to beat Crowe – Taylor

While Kane Williamson became the first New Zealander to score a Test century against all nine other Test nations, Ross Taylor overtook his mentor Martin Crowe’s tally of 5444 runs and is now his country’s third-highest run-scorer. Although New Zealand’s focus was on winning the second Test, the records meant something to the two batsmen.
“I did an interview for a newspaper back home before this Test so I knew I was close,” Taylor said. “I don’t usually look at the score when I am batting but I heard some applause, so I knew I must have got there. It was nice to beat Hogan. He was my mentor for many years. When I first met him he said he wanted me to at least beat his records; so it was nice to achieve one of the goals he set for me.”
In turn, Taylor has set a goal for Williamson. “Not many people have got centuries against every Test playing country home and away and I am sure he would like to do that in his career,” he said.
Taylor praised Williamson’s century for its consistency and class. “It just shows that he can do it against all opposition in all conditions,” but admitted he did not know it could have been the captain’s early birthday present to himself. “Is it his birthday? He has kept that pretty quiet,” Taylor asked. “He’s an old 26 year old isn’t he? He’s a pretty quiet lad. He was just born to bat. And captain.”

Earlier, Ross Taylor became the third centurion of the innings after Tom Latham on day one and Williamson early on day two as New Zealand showed no mercy to Zimbabwe’s wearing attack. Taylor and Latham have scored centuries in both matches of this series but it may be the other hundred that grabs the headlines. The New Zealand captain became the first from his country, the 13th overall and only the second after Younis Khan among the current crop of internationals to score a century against all nine other Test nations. Continuing from 95 overnight, he whipped the eighth ball he faced this morning to the square-leg boundary to bring up the landmark. He did not hang around for long though, giving Zimbabwe a rare moment of celebration when he edged Michael Chinouya to gully but their joy was shortlived. After Williamson’s dismissal, Taylor continued the grind and surpassed his mentor Martin Crowe’s tally of 5444 runs to become the third-highest run-scorer in New Zealand’s Test history. All that meant Zimbabwe were subjected to more toil on a surface that offered no assistance. The only indication the bowlers would make any impression on New Zealand’s batsmen came early in the day with the second new ball when Chinouya and Donald Tiripano, the pace duo, found some movement. Chinouya beat Taylor twice, but with the pace in upper 120s and no slips in place, they had to work within their limitations. The quicks bowled seven-over spells each before Graeme Cremer brought himself on and immediately found the drift that was lacking on the first day. He struck off his fifth ball when Henry Nicholls was trapped in front while attempting a sweep. With two wickets for 20 runs, Zimbabwe may have seen an opportunity to claw their way back in, but Taylor and BJ Watling shut them out.Cremer and offspinner John Nyumbu tried everything to stem the run flow, switching angles from over to around the wicket, and keeping fielders close in but nothing worked. In fact, Craig Ervine, who was stationed under the helmet at short leg, was hit three times by the batsmen as they whipped Cremer away.Watling’s footwork and Taylor’s deft touches were a slow burn on Zimbabwe’s energy reserves and Cremer turned to the part-timers to buy time. Sean Williams was punished but Prince Masvaure produced the only chance of the afternoon session when he tempted Taylor into reaching for a short and wide ball but debutant wicketkeeper Peter Moor could not hold on to the edge. Six balls later, Taylor drove Williams to long-off to bring up his hundred.Zimbabwe’s disciplines deserted them as the tea break approached and they offered the New Zealand pair several short deliveries which were put away. Almost without trying, the Taylor-Watling stand grew to 193 and the score approached 600 before tea was called and New Zealand decided to declare.

Arsenal: Gunners Now Make "Sensational" Player Bid

Arsenal have now made an offer of around €80 million (£70 million) to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice, according to Sky Sports Germany.

Who could join Arsenal this summer?

The north Londoners have already begun planning for the 2023/2024 campaign with transfer chief Edu recently admitting as much to the media.

Following Mikel Arteta's attempt to win a first Premier League title in nearly 20 years, having narrowly missed out to champions Man City, it is now imperative for Arsenal to build upon this challenge and mount another fight next season.

Arteta is apparently set to instigate a major summer rebuild, according to reports, with Arsenal expecting many ins and outs this summer window (The Mirror).

Central midfield is a major priority for them in particular, and Rice isn't the only player they're eyeing for the position, with Brighton's Moises Caicedo also a target.

Arsenal could also look to sign midfielders for more advanced, playmaking roles – leading to interest in both Man City captain Ilkay Gundogan and Chelsea's Mason Mount (The Mirror).

However, Rice is believed to be their number one target, with Sky Germany sharing what is a pretty significant update on their attempts to sign him.

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

According to their information, Arsenal have already made an offer of around £70m for the 24-year-old, coming amid Bayern Munich's real interest as well.

Not much else is said on the bid or West Ham's stance on accepting it, though it's apparently on the table.

Bayern manager, Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants Rice at the Allianz Arena, but it's the Gunners who have made their first move, with Liverpool and Chelsea also eyeing a move.

Who is Declan Rice?

West Ham's captain and star player looks set to be one of the major talking points of this summer window.

As per WhoScored, Rice stands out as West Ham's most vital asset – averaging a higher match rating per 90 than any other Hammers star in the Premier League this season.

He is a crucial defensive midfield presence for David Moyes, having made more successful interceptions per top flight game than all of his teammates (WhoScored).

Called "utterly sensational" by members of the media, Moyes has also recently admitted he could leave, potentially opening the door for Arsenal.

"We hope he stays with us. But we are aware that he could also leave us at the end of the season," said Moyes (via Sky).

"There are two scenarios that we plan with. We plan once with Declan in the new season, but the probability it's great that he's leaving."

Liverpool Blow As They Exit Race For £52m Transfer Target

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool are not currently in the race to sign Manuel Ugarte this summer.

What is the latest Liverpool transfer news?

As evidenced by the upcoming departures of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it's well-known that the Reds are looking to sign some new midfielders this summer.

And Ugarte of Sporting CP has been one name linked in recent times. For example, according to a report from Le Parisien (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are prepared to trigger the player's €60 million (£52m) release clause at the end of the season.

However, while talking about this significant claim on his YouTube channel, Romano has stated something contrary to those reports.

Indeed, the journalist has stated that only Chelsea and PSG are currently close to getting a deal done with Jurgen Klopp's men not in contention right now.

He explained (5:11): "Jorge Mendes, it's him on this deal for Manuel Ugarte. The discussions are taking place.

"The player's position will be crucial. So Ugarte has got to make a decision between Premier League or PSG. Let's see how it will evolve.

"Liverpool are not in the race in this moment. It is Chelsea and PSG. It's up to the player. It's also up to Sporting to decide the best proposal for them, and also to see if some players could be included in the deal – to help reach an agreement.

"For example, Chelsea have many players to offload. Same for PSG. This is something that could be discussed with Sporting in the next days and weeks."

Who wants to sign Ugarte?

This will certainly come as a blow for Liverpool as they may be close to signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton but they probably need more than one new player to come in with Keita, Milner and Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving.

What's more, Ugarte could have been a top signing for the Reds, having been described by journalist Jacque Talbot in his article for Sporting Life as a "mentality monster with great guile and physical attributes", while also being tipped as a long-term replacement for Fabinho in the middle of the park at Anfield.

With that in mind, it's no shock that other clubs are chasing the 22-year-old player. And it sounds as though PSG and Chelsea are both further along with this deal, which does suggest that Liverpool perhaps have their eyes on alternative targets.

It'll certainly be interesting to see who else they target if they do sign Mac Allister but Ugarte heads elsewhere.

Tottenham Hotspur Now Want To Sign "Excellent" £17.5m Star

Tottenham Hotspur have now informed Barcelona that they want to sign Clement Lenglet on a permanent basis in the upcoming transfer window, according to recent reports from Spain.

What's the latest Tottenham transfer news?

Back in February, it was reported that Tottenham wanted to sign two new centre-backs in the summer, and they have now started to run the rule over potential options, recently being linked with a move for AS Roma's Roger Ibanez.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is another option for Spurs, however his current club are set to demand £65m to sanction his departure, which is £20m more than chairman Daniel Levy is willing to spend on the 22-year-old.

The same report also details that enquires have been made about Aymeric Laporte and Pau Torres, with the Lilywhites keen to bring in someone to replace both Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

Not only are Tottenham looking at new options, but they are also keen to keep Lenglet at the club on a permanent basis, according to recent reports from Spain. (via Sport Witness)

Spurs are said to have already informed Barcelona that they intend to sign the Frenchman in the summer, with the La Liga club set to demand a fee in the region of €15m – €20m (£13.1m – £17.5m)

The Lilywhites have been satisfied with the 27-year-old's performances this season, and it is now down to the club's hierarchy to convince him to commit to a permanent move to north London.

Should Tottenham sign Clement Lenglet?

In truth, the whole Tottenham defence has been disappointing this season, so much so that Sanchez and Emerson Royal have been tipped for exits by journalist Alex Crook, while pundit Gabby Agbonlahor was shocked by reports to potentially offer Dier a new deal.

Even Cristian Romero has not been immune from criticism, with journalist Charlie Eccleshare claiming the Argentine was "caught out" for both goals Spurs conceded against Aston Villa on Saturday, and Lenglet has also disappointed.

clement-lenglet-tottenham-hotspur-dier-manchester-united

Despite being lauded as "superb" by the media earlier in the campaign, the 15-time France international has been underwhelming during his loan spell, recording a lower average WhoScored match rating than Dier, Davies and Romero in the Premier League.

It is very disappointing that Spurs appear to be keen on signing Lenglet, as his performances this season have not merited a permanent move, and they should look at options from elsewhere.

Tottenham Gathering Information On "Sensational" £65m Colossus

Tottenham Hotspur are gathering information on FC Porto's Diogo Costa, having recently conducted a scouting mission to assess the goalkeeper, according to reports from Portugal.

What's the latest Tottenham transfer news?

Tottenham are keen to replace Lloris at the end of the season, having identified Gavin Bazunu as a potential replacement for the Frenchman, and they believe £15m could now be enough to land the Southampton shot-stopper.

Another option for Spurs between the sticks is Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili, although they are not the only Premier League club in the race for his signature, with Aston Villa also being named as potential suitors.

Villa may be in the market for a new goalkeeper as Emiliano Martinez could be on the move this summer, having recently been linked with a move to north London, with Chelsea and Manchester United also in the race for the Argentine.

According to reports from Portugal (via Sport Witness), Costa is also attracting the interest of a number of top clubs from across Europe, with Man United, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham linked with a move for the FC Porto goalkeeper.

Spurs are said to be gathering information on the 23-year-old, having sent a scout to watch him in the match between Porto and Casa Pia at the weekend.

The report claims that the Portuguese goalkeeper, who has a €75m (£65m) release clause, put in an impressive performance, making several good saves while being watched by scouts from several big European teams.

Should Tottenham sign Diogo Costa?

With Lloris now 36-years-old, the Lilywhites need to think about bringing in a new long-term replacement, and the Portugal international could be a fantastic purchase, given just how impressive he has been over the course of the past year.

The Switzerland-born shot-stopper has recorded a vastly superior save percentage, when compared to Lloris, saving 77% of the shot he has faced per 90, while he is also far more comfortable in possession, averaging 40.52 touches per 90.

FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Journalist Karan Tejwani has lauded the 6 foot 3 colossus as "absolutely sensational", also praising his "incredible" record of saving penalties, having stopped nine, and one in each of his last three Champions League games at the time of writing.

Given that he is just 23-years-old, Costa could prove to be an excellent long-term replacement for Lloris, and Tottenham should undoubtedly look to sign him this summer, as his performances merit paying the £65m price tag.
