وأضاف: “ممكن أن سيراميكا اعتمد على مستوى الأهلي في السوبر المصري، لكن يجب أن تحترم الفرق الكبيرة ولا تلعب مباراة مفتوحة مثل اليوم”.

It's not necessarily that Mikel Arteta's men were notably worse than their opposite numbers – neither side were great – they just couldn't create a single threatening attack.
The home side had less control of the game, as evidenced by their 35% possession, but they fashioned the clearer chances and should've gone 1-0 up through Wenderson Galeno in the first half, something he made up for with a 94th-minute wonder strike.
Ultimately, it's not terminal for the Gunners' European ambitions, but it's thrown a wrench in the works and while the entire team were subpar, two players were particularly ineffective.

Now, Mr Arsenal himself has been in scintillating form of late, so his underwhelming showing against the Dragões was all the more noticeable and certainly won't help his case in the recent discussions on his 'world-class' status.

The Standard's Simon Collings gave the Hale End gem a 5/10 for his showing and described him as 'not really in the game very much' and that when he was, he 'lacked end product.'
It's a harsh appraisal of the usually brilliant 22-year-old, but it's not unfair, and his numbers from the game show that.
In his 94 minutes of football, he registered a paltry expected goals figure of just 0.02, had no shots on or off target, just one that was blocked, only three of his 11 crosses were accurate, and lost possession 13 times.

In all, it was a game to forget for the club's talisman, although there was a man on the opposite wing who probably had an even worse night in red and white.

While Saka struggled to have any sort of impact on the game from the right-hand side, Gabriel Martinelli was finding it just as challenging to exert an influence from the left.
Unlike his performance against Burnley last time out, the Brazilian was practically anonymous in Portugal, and when he did have the ball, he struggled to do anything with it.
The former Ituano man was also given a 5/10 for his showing by Collings, who simply described him as 'quiet for much of the game.'
However, while he received the same match rating from the Standard journalist, his numbers from the night are even more worrying than Saka's.
In 94 minutes of action, he registered just 0.01 expected assists, had zero shots of any kind, failed in five of his eight dribbles, averaged a passing accuracy of just 69%, was inaccurate with both of his crosses, lost 16 of his 18 ground duels, and most damning of all, he lost possession 27 times – once every 3.48 minutes.

In all, it was not a good day at the office for Arsenal's attackers, and they'll be looking to make amends for their poor performances when Porto travel to the Emirates on March 12th for the second leg.
Stuart Broad is excited to see the resumption of the “awesome” competition between Steve Smith and Jofra Archer when the Ashes resumes in Manchester on Wednesday.While Broad welcomed the return of Smith after the worrying injury he sustained at Lord’s, he warned that Test cricket was a “brutal sport” and there would be no respite in England’s attempt to discomfort him.Smith was obliged to miss the Leeds Test after sustaining a delayed concussion injury when hit on the neck by an Archer bouncer at Lord’s. While Smith resumed his innings after a short period off the pitch, he appeared somewhat skittish and soon fell leg before having left a straight ball. Broad has had his own experience of trouble against the short ball. He was memorably struck in the eye while batting against India at Old Trafford, the scene of this week’s Test, in 2014. Top-edging his attempted pull off Varun Aaron, he sustained a badly broken nose and admitted he suffered nightmares as a consequence. He used psychologists to help recover but, before the injury, he averaged 23.95 with the bat in Test cricket with one century and 10 half-centuries. Since then, he has averaged 13.18 with just two half-centuries.While he believes Smith is unlikely to suffer such extreme consequences, it has left Broad grateful for the improved protection offered by modern helmets.”Smith has a bit more skill than me with the bat so it probably won’t affect him,” Broad said. “I don’t think I’ve ever played in a series where so many people have even hit in the head. I can’t even describe why. Obviously both sets of fast bowlers are bowling well and looking in good rhythm. The pitches have maybe played slightly untrue and a bit two-paced: one will skid through and one will slow down. It feels like the doctors are running out every 10 overs.”But it’s part of Test cricket. You bowl a bouncer not to hit someone in the head, you bowl a bouncer to maneuverer footwork and change momentum of bodyweight. But your best bouncer is directed over leg stump and at the head, unfortunately. But fortunately the helmets are much better now.”While Archer’s confrontation against Smith may gain the headlines, Broad’s private competition against David Warner has been just as absorbing. Broad has dismissed him four times in the three Tests and feels he is reaping the rewards for bowling a fuller length. But he warned that the pitches for the final two Tests could be better for batsmen and praised Warner’s batting in the first innings in Leeds.”It’s been a great battle so far,” Broad said. “I’ve really enjoyed it. I had to look quite closely pre-series as, until this series, he had probably had the better of me.”I’d always focussed on his outside edge thinking that running the ball across him would bring in the slips. But the bloke has incredible hand-eye coordination, so if you miss your line at all it seems to disappear through the covers.”I had a change of mindset in this series and have tried to bring the stumps into play more against him. I’ve looked to nip it back onto off-stump and then, if the ball holds its line, it brings the outside edge in and that actually limits the scoring options slightly.”Also, the pitches have been in our favour with the new ball. I don’t want to take too much credit that I’ve out-thought him or anything. It’s been a really good time to bowl with that new ball.”But Test cricket always moves on and this pitch will be very different to Lord’s or Headingley. And on that first morning at Headingley it was probably as good a time to bowl as you’ll ever get in Test cricket: cloudy, heavy, swinging, seaming. He might have played and missed a lot but he got through that period and got a pretty crucial fifty. He’ll take confidence from that.”

The Argentine hinted before the window opened that his squad were missing something, but his admission seems to have fallen on deaf ears, as he remained without reinforcements throughout January.

If we are not receiving enough, maybe we need to do some movement. Forced to wait until the summer, Pochettino may well find it was worth the delay when the next window arrives. According to Sport in Spain, Chelsea are "willing to bid" for Raphinha, who Barcelona may look to sell this summer due to his position in the pecking order and their need to sell-to-buy.
Raphinha very nearly joined Chelsea before eventually completing a move to Barcelona back in 2022, of course, and could now get a second opportunity to choose Stamford Bridge. Todd Boehly and co will have to fend off interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who are also willing to bid for the Brazilian this summer, but do that and they could land a long-term target.

A player with past Premier League experience, starring for Leeds United, Raphinha could yet get back on track with a move to Chelsea should they push on and secure a move this summer. If the winger avoided injury, then he could hand the Blues a major boost and finally begin to solve their inconsistencies going forward. What's more, the London giants would be getting a player who leads the press from the front, as revealed by Muhammed Butt on X.
The Journalist said back in February of last year: "Raphinha off. he was excellent. constantly drove forward and worked the ball into the box. a bit sloppy at times but NEVER stopped working. a defensive monster whose goal was also the product of his own hard work."

A lacklustre start to 2024 has pushed West Ham chiefs into considering alternatives to Moyes, and it is reliably believed that negotiations over fresh terms have been postponed until the club have a clearer idea of the Scotsman's potential to bring more success.
“We know the Chairman is very aware of the discontent amongst the fans, he's not on social media but is very well-informed of what is happening," said insider ExWHUemployee this week.
"A new deal for Moyes is not close. Results and performances have put any planned talks back, and the manager of course has been warned things must improve fast. The objective was to retain Moyes, and the club are known to want to stay loyal to the manager, however we can confirm options are being assessed. Tim Steidten will be looking at alternatives as the club plan ahead, although that is to be expected.”
The likes of Lille manager Paulo Fonseca and former Chelsea boss Graham Potter have been floated as just a few of the potential options for owner David Sullivan in the last 10 days. Indeed, according to 90min, Cooper could be an option to replace Moyes at West Ham, as it is believed he'd be "in the running" if their boss departs. The Welshman has been linked with Crystal Palace in the last few months, but as they attempt a deal for Oliver Glasner, the door remains open for Sullivan to appoint Cooper.

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has joined his brother Shaun Marsh as Glamorgan’s second overseas signing for the Vitality T20 Blast while Gloucestershire have signed Australia one-Test swing bowler Chadd Sayers for a six-week county championship stint.Mitch Marsh was not selected for Australia’s World Cup campaign after being dropped from all three forms at international level in the last 12 months due to a form slump and lost his Cricket Australia contract.However, he has been selected for the Australia A tour of the UK which begins on June 15 and concludes on July 27. Meanwhile, Gloucestershire have signed Sayers as an overseas county championship replacement for injured South Australia teammate Daniel Worrell.Sayers had an interrupted Australian domestic season due to an ongoing knee issue, after making his Test debut in Johannesburg in March 2018. He had long been seen as a possible Ashes candidate but his injury-interrupted season saw him miss out on Australia A selection for the tour of the UK.Sayers replaces Worrall, who was sent home after suffering stress fractures in his lower back. Newcastle United are set to submit a bid for a highly-rated player whose "name is on everyone's lips" at his current club, according to a new transfer update from abroad.

A plethora of names have emerged as potential transfer targets for Magpies this month, as Eddie Howe looks to resurrect a season that is threatening to peter out. One player who has been linked with a move to Newcastle is Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who is seen as someone who could make up for the absence of the injured Joelinton, with the Brazilian expected to be missing for many months. Similarly, Bournemouth's Philip Billing is also seen as an option in that area of the pitch, should he wish to leave the Cherries this month.
Meanwhile, Lazio star Alessio Romagnoli is the latest defender to be backed to join the Magpies, as Howe looks to bolster his options there, amid rumours of a move for Sporting CP ace Goncalo Inacio. Newcastle readying Desire Doue move
According to a new update from L'Equipe [via Get French Football News on X], Newcastle are expected to submit a bid for Rennes midfielder Desire Doue before the end of the month, with Borussia Dortmund also interested in snapping him up.
A fellow update on their website claims that "Newcastle and Dortmund have both sought information in recent days to understand the potential grounds of signing the 18-year-old before submitting an offer later in the window".
Doue, who doesn't have a weak foot, appears to be a player of enormous potential, and can play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder or second striker, so it is exciting to see Newcastle in the race to acquire his signature in January, acting as a long-term signing who could reach great heights over time.
At just 18, the Frenchman has already made 55 appearances for Rennes, scoring six goals and registering two assists in that time, while back in 2022, Breaking The Lines said of him:
"Desire Doue is the name on everyone’s lips on the streets of Rennes. Rivers of praise and attention have been steadily flowing since his goal against Brest on August 31, when he became the first player born in 2005 to score in all five of the major European leagues."
Doue has already won one cap for France's Under-21s, despite his tender years, and his potential as a player means that Newcastle may do all they can to beat Dortmund to his signing.
Long-term planning at St James' Park is essential, and the attacking midfielder could be seen as someone who can be a poster boy for the future, making this one to watch in the final weeks of the window.
West Ham are eyeing up replacements for the potentially outbound Nayef Aguerd, and it's believed one "very quick" defender has caught their attention.

Reports this week have claimed West Ham are now willing to sell Aguerd in January, but won't accept anything less than £30 million with his contract set to expire in around 18 months.
The 27-year-old, who has started 16 Premier League games for West Ham this season, is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia with clubs from the Middle East eager to prise him away next month.
"We really wanted to buy him two years ago," said Moyes on Aguerd earlier this year, going on to praise the defender as a "stylish" and "really good" asset.
“He’s a really good player, really good on the ball, stylish. He’s got some really good attributes and I think he will big a plus to us.”

As a result, it is now believed that West Ham chiefs are weighing up replacements for Aguerd as we quickly approach the winter window's opening.
The Hammers have already been linked with Dan-Axel Zagadou of Stuttgart as one option to step into Aguerd's shoes, with Football Insider now sharing news on another in Bayer Leverkusen stalwart Jonathan Tah.
West Ham eyeing Tah move to replace Aguerd
According to the outlet, and journalist Pete O'Rourke, West Ham are eyeing Tah as a candidate to replace Aguerd if their defender does indeed leave mid-season.
The 27-year-old has started 15 league matches under Xabi Alonso, with Leverkusen currently sitting pretty atop the Bundesliga table.
They're looking set to contend with Bayern Munich for the title this season, and Tah has played an instrumental role as Alonso's first-choice centre-back.
He may be difficult to tempt away from Leverkusen in January, but that hasn't stopped West Ham from registering an interest in the German.
Tah's form this season has even earned him call-ups to the national team, and there has been no shortage of praise for the defender's attributes in recent years.
"Jonathan has a great history here. He's an international player. He's ambitious. He is held in high regard by his teammates. We expect him to take the next step personality-wise," once said former Leverkusen boss Gerardo Seoane (via Bundesliga).
Meanwhile, former Germany manager Joachim Low heralded Tah's physicality and bursts of speed. Low said (via Bundesliga):

They took the lead once again against the Magpies but were able to hold on for all three points with an impressive, energetic, display in front of their own fans.
